But that’s the thing about the Madigan line – it’s no exaggeration to say that the French Line is ‘Bourke Street’ by comparison. But, after a little mucking around and studying GPS points on various pieces of electronic gadgetry, we picked up some wheel tracks that headed out towards East Bore and just past that we found a great flat area between the trees that became our first night camp on the Madigan Line. It links the Hay River Track in the east and the Colson Track in the west, with most travellers opting to drive west to east to make driving over windswept dunes easier. We received permission from both organisations and continued east, crossing more dunes on a track that was still pretty well-defined, but certainly a lot less used than the route west of the Hay River.
